ABOUT US
1976 THE BEGINNING OF HOSPITAL BROADCASTING
Broadcasting in Bangor began at the old C&A hospital in Bangor on Easter Sunday, April 18th, 1976. The first programme consisted an introduction from the Chairman of the Gwynedd Health Authority, Jack Berry, followed by 'Spotlight on the Staff', ‘Down Your Ward' interviews and, of course, Record requests.
The radio 'studio' was setup in the hospital lecture theatre amongst an assortment of specimen jars and a dinsinterested skeleton.

Having a guest in the studio could be a little cramped. Now where did we put this 'no smoking' sign?

Over the years the station developed and was soon broadcasting 7 days-a-week, quickly expanding its services to include the St David's Hospital on Caernarfon road.
The service moved to the new Ysbyty Gwynedd (and was subsequently renamed) and began broadcasting on 1st January 1985. Radio Ysbyty Gwynedd now broadcasts from a purpose built studio situated in the main corridor in the hospital with easy accessibility from the reception area. Using the latest computerised broadcasting equipment, we are able to provide a 24-hour service to the patients, seven days-a-week.
The station is run completely on a voluntary basis with a staff of all ages who ward visit, present programmes, fundraise and go around the community recording programmes of local interest.
